Restore User
Definition:
The Restore User action in the Google Directory category allows you to undelete a previously deleted user, restoring their account and access to Google services. This action is essential for recovering accidentally deleted users or reinstating former employees. It ensures the user is restored to a specified organizational unit, maintaining proper structure and access control.
Example Use Cases:
-
Accidental Deletion Recovery:
Quickly restore a user who was accidentally deleted, preventing loss of access to important data and services. -
Employee Reinstatement:
Reinstate a returning employee’s account, ensuring their access to previous emails, files, and permissions. -
Business Continuity:
Recover critical accounts during organizational changes, ensuring no disruption in workflow or access to resources. -
Compliance and Audits:
Restore user accounts to meet compliance requirements by preserving access history and data integrity.
Inputs:
-
Connection:
The authentication method that connects to your Google Directory. This is necessary to authorize the action and ensure secure access.
-
User ID:
The unique identifier for the user being restored. This is not the email address but the system-generated ID assigned to the user.
You can find this ID through other Google Directory actions, like "Find Users."
-
Organizational Unit Path:
The full path of the organizational unit (OU) where the user will be placed upon restoration.
Example: If the organizational structure is "Engineering > Apps," the path would be: /Engineering/Apps.
If no path is specified, the user will be restored to the root organization by default.
Example:
Imagine a company accidentally deletes a user account for John Doe, an engineer in the Product Development team. To quickly restore his access:
- Use the "Find Users" action to get John’s unique User ID.
- In the "Restore User" action:
- Set the Connection to your authorized Google Directory connection.
- Enter John’s User ID.
- Set the Organizational Unit Path to /Product Development to place him back into the correct department.
- Run the action, and John’s account will be restored, with access to previous resources and settings.
This process ensures a smooth recovery, minimizing downtime and avoiding manual recreation of the user’s account.
